Salted Caramel. Ahhh. The taste of dreams, slipping gently down your throat, sharp bursts of mouth-watering flavours enriching a gooey mass of delight. Salted Caramel. Ahhh.
Sweet and salty. Gooey and crunchy. Together, salt and caramel create some seriously irresistible flavours. So that must be why the world is falling for this delight. In fudge, ice cream, cupcakes and many more, no wonder we all love this combo. What’s that? You’ve never had it? Well, you, my friend, are missing out on a treat!
The twitter hashtag ‘#saltedcaramel’ is trending, and this phenomenon has found the hearts of millions. But where did the trend begin?
How salted caramel was discovered
The salted-caramel rivers were discovered by scientists in 1974… YOU WISH!!!
Actually, it was started by Henri Le Roux in Brittany, France, in 1981. Brittany is located in north west France, by the Atlantic Ocean. Henri created Caramel Butter Salt, which is basically buttery salted caramel.
If you are ever in France, you MUST do whatever it takes to search out the original. And once you find it, you MUST smuggle some back for me.
Oh, ok, you don’t have to then. But it would be nice…
As more people tried this thrilling creation, and after winning the “Best Candy of France” at the 1980 International Trade Fair for Confectionery, word spread and the rest ….is history!
