Liverpool’s 3-0 victory at Southampton was one that was welcome at a ‘bogey’ ground to them.
The Reds went to St Mary’s with a thought nestled in the back of their mind that they hadn’t won at Southampton for 11 years! However, Liverpool got off to a flyer when Luis Suarez ended his 5 match ‘goal drought’ after taking advantage of a Dejan Lovren error.
Southampton, however, did have chances, with Jay Rodriguez bringing out the best of Simon Mignolet.
Brendan Rodgers introduced Raheem Sterling shortly before the hour mark and just 80 seconds later, the young winger attached onto a square ball by Luis Suarez to slot past Artur Boruc. That’s when the Liverpool men started to believe they could take all three points away!
After Luis Suarez was brought down in stoppage time, Steven Gerrard stood over the penalty spot again, this time firing the ball into the top right corner and firing Liverpool into second place!
After the game, Steven Gerrard spoke to Sky Sports. He was asked; “Can Liverpool win the Premier League?”
